Bhubaneswar: Thousands of devotees thronged temples across the state and brought out huge processions to celebrate Ram Navami on Thursday. Processions were held at several places including Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Balasore and Bhadrak with flags and huge cut-outs of Lord Ram and Hanuman. Youngsters dressed up as Ram, Sita, Laxman and Hanuman as thousands filled the air with chants of Jai Shri Ram.
Heavy rain and thundershowers in Bhadrak failed to deter the spirit of devotees as a huge procession was taken out across the city. “This is an annual ritual we have been hosting over the years and nothing can dampen the spirit of Ram Navami. More than 60 tableaux and over 100 kirtan troupes from across the district gahered at one place before the start of the procession,” said Swadhin Sundar Das, a member of Sri Ram Maha Jangya Samitee.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and governor Ganeshi Lal and other politicians and celebrities greeted people on Ram Navami on social media.
