Gujarat High Court has got two new judges. The official notification regarding which has been issued by the President in exercise of the power conferred by Clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India. However, earlier on February 10, 2023, Justice Soniaben Gokani was appointed as the new Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court. The number of judges in the Gujarat High Court has now increased to 31 against the total strength of 52 judges.
Who are the new two judges?
Devan Mahendrabhai Desai and Moksa Kiran Thakkar have been appointed as judges in the Gujarat High Court. The names of these two were recommended by the collegium of the Supreme Court in early March.

As on March 1, 2023, the Gujarat High Court was functioning with 24 judges against a working strength of 52. Subsequently, on March 15, five more judges were appointed, taking the number to 29. Today, with the appointment of 2 more judges, the number of judges in the Gujarat High Court has increased to 31. While there is still a vacancy of 21 judges.
Kiran Rijiju tweeted his best wishes
Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju tweeted that Advocate Devan Mahendrabhai Desai and Advocate Moxa Kiran Thakkar have been appointed as Judges of the Gujarat High Court as per the relevant provisions under the Constitution of India. I wish them all the best.
