Prayagraj: Number Of Pg Seats At Mlnmc May Be Increased | Allahabad News

Prayagraj: Number of seats at postgraduate (PG) courses run by Motilal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC) of the city may be increased after a four-member team of the National Medical Commission (NMC) on Monday inspected the faculties in gastro, neuro, pulmonary medicine and general medicine and checked the facilities provided to the patients.
The college administration had requested to increase four seats in neuro, 10 in general medicine and two in gastro for PG. On this application, a four-member team from Madurai, Kerala, Hyderabad visited the concerned departments. The medical college has a total of 162 PG seats. Of these, there are already 15 seats in the department of medicine, one in the gastro, five in pulmonary medicine. However, there was no PG seat in the department of neuro yet. After the requested increase in terms of seats, the medical college will be having 178 seats for PG courses. “We have submitted a request with the authorities to enhance the number of seats in different departments following which the NMC team inspected different departments and now we expect that we would be getting the approval for increasing the PG seats,” principal Dr SP Singh said.
In another development, the regional study centre of the Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha at Prayagraj will start a 4-year integrated course in women’s studies and film studies from 2023-24 academic session. Students from all over the country are expected to study here and 40 seats each have been fixed in both the courses. Along with this, students will be able to study MA in both the courses. From this session, admission will be done on 30-30 seats in both the PG courses. At the same time, research will also start in both these courses.
Centre director prof Akhilesh Dubey said for the first time an integrated course in women’s studies and film studies would start at the regional centre of Wardha University here at Prayagraj.
He added that students who exit the course after the first year would be awarded certificates, diploma in the second year, degree in the third year and honours in the fourth year. If the student completes one more year of studies, they will be awarded MA degree. At the same time, students who have already graduated will be able to take direct admission in the Masters programme.
