Berhampur: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved three master of surgery (MS) seats in urology department of MKCG Medical College and Hospital for the 2023-24 academic session.
The NMC approved the programme based on the report of the council’s expert who visited the department on February 27 to inspect its facilities. “During the visit, the expert held extensive discussions with the faculty members, superintendent and principal,” said MKCG principal Abani Kant Mishra. “After receiving approval from the state government, admission to the course will begin,” Mishra added.
MKCG will be the state’s second medical college after SCB Medical College to offer MS in urology. “MS in urology is a superspeciality course that can be pursued after completing a post-graduate medical degree programme. The three-year programme will concentrate on the diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract and reproductive organ diseases,” said Mishra.
MS and doctorate of medicine programmes are available in at least four superspecialty departments at MKCG. While endocrinology and cardiology have two and three seats, respectively, plastic surgery has two seats, a source said.
