BHUBANESWAR: Three youths, who were returning home on a two-wheeler after attending a Ram Navami function in Nayagarh district on Thursday night, died after their bike rammed into a roadside tree, police said on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Madhab Pradhan (20), Suryakant Pradhan (19) and Rakesh Nayak (19), all residents of Maheswarpur in Odagaon area of Nayagarh. The accident took place at Komanda Pathara under Odagaon model police station area around 1 am on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Police said Suryakant was riding the bike whereas the other two were on the pillion seat. They left the village in the morning to attend the Ram Navami function and fair at a nearby village. The three youths were Plus II pass-outs. The intensity of the accident was so severe that the bike was completely mangled. Since the accident took place on an isolated road late in the night, the injured could not get immediate help. Some passers-by spotted the trio and called the ambulance.
Suryakant was declared dead upon arrival at Odagaon community health centre. The other two injured were referred to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital. But they died on the way, the police officer said.
