Berhampur: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday laid foundation stones for rejuvenation of water bodies in Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) area, during his visit to Chhatrapur.
The ponds to be renovated in the first phase at a cost of Rs 64.36 crore are Bedha bandh (Rs 29.20 crore), Aina bandh (Rs 10.43 crore), Haradakhandi bandh (Rs 13.26 crore) and Agula bandh (Rs 11.45 crore). There are 40 water bodies here. All the ponds will be developed in phases.
“Our aim is to rejuvenate the ponds, which will not only become the catalyst to recharge groundwater but also beautify the city. We will revive the ponds, plant trees around them and make footpaths,” said BeMC mayor Sanghamitra Dalai.
