The state confirmed five deaths due to influenza H3N2 on Tuesday and said a sixth fatality was under review by a committee of experts. Among the deceased is a seven-year-old boy from Washim who died a fortnight ago, officials confirmed. Cases of influenza A types, H1N1 and H3N2, have seen a surge in March. According to state figures, the number of H1N1 (swine flu) cases has increased to 439 and H3N2 to 333 since January. There has been three confirmed swine flu deaths in Maharashtra so far. The state has had 3. 48 lakh suspected flu cases this year. The BMC data released on Tuesday stated that 14 patients are admitted with H3N2 and H1N1 in the city. Nine of them are admitted with H3N2, which has seen recorded cases increase from seven in February to 21 in March. H1N1 cases jumped from 18 in January, 39 in February to 55 in March.Read Less
