Bhubaneswar: The Laxmisagar police here on Thursday arrested five men on charges of kidnapping a 61-year-old man on March 24 and demanding Rs 1.5 crore as ransom from his family. Though the elderly man was rescued by the police from Delang area in Puri district on March 25, the abductors had fled.
The accused were identified as Kalia alias Kuna Naya, (36), Rajesh Kumar Das alias Polio Raja (20), Prasanta Kumar Nayaka (31), Ananta Panda (35) and Nirod Kumar Swain (40). All of them are from Puri. Manoj Mahapatra, a retired civil supplies officer, was building a house in Laxmisagar area and Nirod’s relative worked there as a mason.
On March 24, he was inspecting the construction when the five stopped near the site on a car, forced him into the vehicle and drove off. TNN
