IIT-Madras research scholar dies by suicide | Chennai News

CHENNAI: A PhD research scholar at the IIT-M died by suicide at his home in Velachery on Friday after updating his phone status as “I am sorry, not good. Enough”. Police said Sachin Kumar Jain, 23, had gone to IIT-M as usual on Friday morning.
However, he returned to his rented home that he shared with two others around 11.30 am without informing anyone in class. Soon after he arrived home, he updated his phone status. Some of his friends who noticed this rushed to his classroom to check on him.
As he was not there, a few friends rushed to his house, where they found the door was latched from the inside. The students broke open the door to find him hanging from a ceiling fan. The Velachery police registered a case and sent his body to the Government Royapettah Hospital for an autopsy.
IIT-M has posted a message stating that “We are deeply shocked and anguished to convey the tragic and untimely passing away of Sachin Kumar Jain of the Mechanical Engineering Department on March 31 afternoon.

He was residing outside the campus. “The institute expresses its heartfelt condolences and shares the grief of the friends and family of the deceased student.”
