RAJKOT/SURAT: Overcast skies, strong wind, hail and heavy downpour seem to have become the general weather condition in entire Saurashtra, Kutch and South Gujarat regions for almost one week now. Saturday was no exception to this unseasonal phenomenon either.
Rain accompanied by heavy wind and hailstorm lashed some parts of the Kutch, Saurashtra and parts of Dang district. According to reports, Bhuj, Rapar, Mandvi and Abdasa along with many areas of Kutch received heavy rain. Villages of Rapar taluka including Gagodar, Manaba, Mevasa, Kanmer and Sai also received strong wind and thunderstorm resulting in waterlogging in several villages. Hailstorm was also reported in villages like Manaba and Mevasa surprising the people.
Unseasonal rain also battered districts like Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka and Amreli, with Bhavnagar witnessing strong wind and thunderstorm from Friday night onwards. The mango farmers in this region are worried as the unseasonal downpour may result in various kinds of diseases in the crop and may ruin the fruit. In some parts, strong wind has also resulted in the unripe fruit falling off the trees.
Parts of Dang district got drenched on Saturday as well. For the past two days, the tribal district has been receiving moderate rainfall and because of this, rain tourism activities may get impacted on the weekend.
