DPR for Madurai metro awarded to firm for Rs 1.3 crore | Madurai News


MADURAI: The tender for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Madurai metro rail project has been awarded to Aarvee Associates for 1.35 crore. It will be completed by June and sent to the Union government for approval. The exact locations and number of stations of the much-awaited urban transport facility will be revealed in the DPR, said Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials.
A week ago, in the state budget, the Tamil Nadu government had allocated 8,500 crore for the first phase of Madurai metro which is planned between Thirumangalam and Othakadai for a distance of 31km. Of the four companies which submitted bids for the DPR, Aarvee Associates bagged the tender on Sunday.
The DPR will give information like traffic study, cost break-up, implementation strategy and socioeconomic impact of the project. According to procedures, the central government will give final approval only after all clearances are received from the state as well as its own ministries. Subsequently, an external agency or international bank will be approached to secure funds, said the officials.
As many as 20 stations have been proposed under the Detailed Feasibility Report. They are Tirumangalam, Kappalur Toll Plaza, Dharmathupatti, Thoppur, Thirunagar, Thirupparankundram, Pasumalai, Vasantha Nagar, Madura College, Madurai Railway Junction, Simmakkal, Keelavasal, Therkuvasal, Goripalayam, Police Commissioner’s Office, K. Pudur, Mattuthavani, Uthangudi, Madurai High Court and Othakadai.
