Prayagraj: The special court of MP and MLA has fixed March 22 to hear the application moved by former MLA Khalid Azim alias Mohd Ashraf, who is brother of mafia don Atiq Ahmad and one of the accused in Umesh Pal murder case, requesting the court that the proceedings regarding remand, etc., be conducted through video-conferencing due to security reasons.
Ashraf is presently lodged in Bareli jail of Uttar Pradesh.
Ashraf in this application has taken the plea that since consulting with lawyer of his choice is his fundamental right, he should be permitted to consult his lawyer personally in the jail where he is lodged.
Earlier, the special judge, MP MLA had sought information from the superintendent of the jail. When it was not submitted, he fixed March 22 for the next hearing of this matter.
Atiq, his wife Shaista Parveen, brother Ashraf, his two sons and others are accused in the sensational murder case of Umesh Pal, who was prime witness in BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case. Umesh Pal was shot dead along with his two police security guards on February 24 at Sulem Sarai locality under the police station Dhoomanganj at Prayagraj.
