Another government official caught in ACB’s trap
Anti-corruption bureau ACB in Surat has caught a Central GST and Excise officer for taking bribe. Class-II officer of Central GST and Excise Department has been caught taking bribe of Rs 1500. A CGST official demanded bribe from the complainant to get GST registration number.
CGST officer caught in ACB’s trap
A class two officer superintendent of the CGST department in Surat has been caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking bribe. The CGST department has been in a commotion after the superintendent who was taking thousands of rupees a month was caught. Ranjit Kumar Krishna Kumar Sah working as Superintendent in Division-1 Range-3 in Central GST and Central Excise Commissioner office opposite Nanpura Bahumali Building at Surat has been caught in ACB’s trap while demanding a bribe of Rs 1500.
A bribe of three thousand rupees was demanded from the merchant
Surat A businessman applied online to get GST number. He then met CGST officer Ranjit Kumar to verify the documentary evidence including his Aadhaar card and Ranjit Kumar demanded a bribe of Rs three thousand from him. However, Ranjit Kumar finally agreed to take Rs 1500 after the businessman hesitated a bit.
ACB had set a trap
As the businessman did not want to pay bribe, he lodged a complaint in Surat ACB. ACB officials searched and laid a trap. Also, the complainant had a purposeful conversation with Ranjit Kumar, Superintendent of CGST Department, who demanded bribe, and called him to accept the bribe amount. As decided, Ranjit Kumar called the complainant to the Kailaspati Mahadev Temple located under the Surat Railway Station Delhi Gate fly over bridge and accepted the bribe amount. The ACB officers who were present in private disguise immediately caught Ranjit Kumar red-handed by taking a bribe of Rs 1500. ACB has arrested officer Ranjit Shah under Prevention of Corruption Act and taken legal action.
