Cab knocks down lawyer in Gurgaon society complex, driver held | Gurgaon News

GURGAON: A high court lawyer who is the former drug controller of Haryana was knocked down by a cab inside his society in Sector 50 on Thursday.
The driver, working for a cab-aggregator, was suspected to be under the influence of an intoxicant. He was arrested and granted bail.
Police said on Friday Narender Kumar Ahuja, a retired drug controller who is currently practising at the Punjab and Haryana high court, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after treatment at the Park Hospital in Gurgaon.
The residents of Orchid Petals society had organised a feast on the occasion of Ram Navami on Thursday morning. Ahuja attended the gathering with his wife Anju and was walking back to his flat when the cab rammed into him from the back. He fell unconscious and sustained injuries to his legs, hands and head.
The lawyer alleged that the cab driver was under the influence of alcohol.
“I was on one side of the road, with the walking track, when the car hit me,” he said.
A case was registered against the driver under sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life) of the IPC at the Sector 50 police station.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the station Dalbir Kumar said cops got a call about the incident on Thursday. “The taxi driver was stopped inside the society by the security guards and handed over to the police team,” the ASI said. The accused was later granted bail.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver wasn’t in a stable condition. “A medical examination has been carried out to find out if he had consumed liquor or any other drug. Reports are awaited,” Kumar said.
