Coimbatore: A BJP functionary and two cadres were arrested on Friday for assaulting a 34-year-old woman and her husband over a business rivalry on Karamadai-Velliankadu Road.
The arrested were identified as B Prabhu, 34, M Gnanasekar, and N Vijayakumar, 52, all residents of Karamadai. While Prabhu and Vijayakumar are members of the BJP, Gnanasekar is the vice-president of Karamadai area BJP.
Prabhu runs a mess on Karamadai–Velliankadu Road. S Geetha, 34, and her husband B Saravanan, 45, of Kamarajar Road, are also running a mess on the same road. As the business for the couple was brisk, Prabhu got jealous and assaulted them with wooden logs. tnn
