Active Covid cases double in 5 days in Gujarat | Ahmedabad News

AHMEDABAD: With 47 new Covid cases on Sunday, the active cases in Gujarat reached 213 – crossing 200 cases mark after 104 days.
Out of total, 122 or 57% were in Ahmedabad alone, followed by 11% in Rajkot and 8% in Surat. The data indicated that it took five days for the active cases to double from 100 on March 7 to 213 on March 12.
According to Government of India’s ministry of health & family welfare (MoHFW) data, Gujarat ranked sixth among Indian states in terms of highest active cases. At 1,527 cases, Kerala was at the top, followed by 486 in Maharashtra and 481 in Karnataka.
The analysis of test positivity rate (TPR) for Gujarat indicated that Vadodara had the highest TPR of 3.2%, followed by 2.4% in Ahmedabad – indicating low prevalence. However, the TPRs were less than 1% for more than three months, said experts.
On Sunday, the new cases included 26 from Ahmedabad, 6 from Mehsana, 3 each from Surat city, Vadodara city, Bhavnagar city, 2 from Kutch, and 1 each from Rajkot city, Morbi, Porbandar, Surat and Valsad. “With rise in overall flu cases, the testing and eventual identification of Covid has increased. However, cases and hospitalizations are very low compared to population size, and so far there are no indicators of a sustained wave,” said a physician.
