24 Hrs On, Rioting Communities ‘bail Each Other Out’ | Vadodara News

VADODARA: A day after people of two faiths clashed with each other during a wedding procession in Samiyala village, the locals set an example of communal harmony when members of both communities exchanged bail surety of people accused of rioting on Sunday.
The police said that this show of harmony will soothe frayed nerves in the village that was on boil two days ago.
“We had arrested 37 persons in connection with the communal rioting during a wedding procession on Friday night. A peace committee meeting was called in Samiyala village on Saturday wherein this unique decision was taken,” said a police official.
“I came here to give bail surety to the accused belonging to Hindu faith. We all want to live harmoniously together and hence it was decided to take this step during the peace committee meeting,” said Saeed Nazar Ali, a resident of Samiyala.
“We gave bail surety of Muslims in connection with the rioting. Also, we have decided that we won’t let such incidents happen again in the future,” said Nikunj Bhatt, sarpanch of Samiyala village. Tensions ran high in the village on the night of March 10 when people from both the faiths clashed over bursting of crackers during a wedding procession.
Five persons were injured and few vehicles were gutted in the arson. The incident occurred when the wedding procession was passing near a religious place and some people living there objected to bursting crackers. The cross complaints filed by both the groups said that bricks were pelted during the melee and two persons also came with sharp weapons.
